The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest in Washington has long been considered prime Sasquatch territory. With its ancient Douglas firs, towering cedars, and dense undergrowth, it's the kind of remote wilderness where a large, reclusive primate could easily remain hidden. So when a family decided to spend a week in a remote cabin there back in August 2001, they had no idea what was waiting for them in those woods.
A YouTube channel called Error 199 recently shared a chilling first-person account that's been catching attention. The story comes from a man who, along with his wife Sara and their two kids (14-year-old Michael and 10-year-old Emily), rented a small log cabin two miles from the nearest forest road. They were looking for peace and quiet away from Seattle, and a forest ranger named David Wilson assured them it was a perfect spot for a family vacation.
For the first two days, everything seemed normal. Sara read on the porch, Michael explored with his camera, Emily collected rocks and leaves, and the narrator fished in a nearby stream where the trout were biting well. But something felt off. The forest was unusually quiet. Very few animals, no deer, very few birds. The woods felt empty despite being beautiful.
On the second evening, Michael mentioned hearing something strange, like someone breaking branches in the distance. The family listened but heard nothing more.
On the third day, the narrator decided to explore deeper into the forest. About an hour into his hike, he came across something that stopped him in his tracks. A massive log, at least four feet in diameter, had been dragged across the trail. The earth beneath was compacted, and deep furrows ran along both sides of the path as if something had hauled this multi-ton log through the woods. The bark had deep scratches, each about a foot long and several inches deep, far too large for any known animal.
Half a mile further, he found even more disturbing evidence. A huge fir tree, at least 80 feet tall, had been uprooted. The root system was still intact with fresh black dirt, suggesting it had happened just days earlier. And around the fallen tree were massive barefoot prints, each at least 18 inches long and 7 inches wide, with five toes that were disproportionately long and thick. The depth of the impressions suggested whatever made them weighed 400 to 500 pounds.
The narrator took photos, placing his hand next to the tracks for scale. His palms looked like toys next to these prints.
Then, while sitting in a clearing eating his lunch, the forest went completely silent. No birds, no wind, nothing. That total silence that only happens when a predator is near.
About 50 meters away, something moved between the trees. At first he thought it was just shadows, but then he realized he was looking at something alive. A massive dark shape, moving between the trunks, sometimes hiding, sometimes appearing in clearings. The creature was enormous, at least seven or eight feet tall, with broad shoulders and long arms.
It walked upright like a human, but its proportions were completely inhuman. Its hands reached nearly to its knees. Its shoulders were incredibly wide, and its head looked small compared to its massive torso. When he caught a glimpse of its profile, he could see it was covered in dark hair, with a flat, almost human face but a protruding jaw that revealed its animal nature.
The encounter lasted only two or three minutes but felt like an eternity. The creature moved parallel to the clearing, sometimes stopping and tilting its head as if listening. Then it disappeared into the thicket, and the forest sounds gradually returned.
The narrator hurried back to the cabin, second-guessing himself the whole way. By the time he arrived, he had almost convinced himself it had all been his imagination. But then he showed his family the photos of the tracks...
The story cuts off there, but you can check out the full account on the Error 199 channel. It's a compelling narrative that fits right in with the long history of sightings in Washington's old-growth forests. The physical evidence, the dragged log, the uprooted tree, the massive barefoot prints, is exactly the kind of trace evidence that has been reported in Sasquatch encounters for decades. Stories like this one continue to fuel the conversation about what might be walking through those ancient forests, and the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie area remains one of the most consistent regions for reported encounters on record.
If you're interested in first-hand encounter stories like this, definitely give the video a watch. It's the kind of account that makes you wonder what's really out there in those deep woods.
