My dad, 2 brothers and I were at mirror lake lake on the Mt Whitney trail, when my dad, while cooking dinner, threw the butt of a loaf of bread a few feet out of camp. While laying on our sleeping bags after a long days hike, dad (still cooking) said "what is that? Kids, do you see what I see?" When we looked up, as far as you could frisbee a piece of bread was a 5 foot or so gorilla looking animal eating that piece of bread, with that same stair a gorilla at the zoo would give you, you know the one that says if I was outside of this cage, I'd rip you apart look. My brothers and I stood up witch made it turn and walk away quickly. We chased it into a huge rock slide,( my dad yelling all the while for us to come back) and started to throw rocks into the huge crevasse it ran into, we even threw an old whiskey bottle we found in the crevasse until dad came and had us come back to camp. Spent a very scary night there and came back down trail the next morning. Never made it to the top of Mt. Whitney because of this encounter..
