Alaska keeps delivering some of the most compelling Sasquatch encounters out there, and a recent video dives deep into a cluster of sightings near Fairbanks that deserve a closer look. The footage walks through a detailed 2009 report from a witness who had a close encounter right near a school, plus some interesting follow-up from a BFRO investigator.
The main story takes place in July 2009 along Auburn Drive, about a mile from Farmers Loop Road and roughly 1 to 1.5 miles off the University of Fairbanks campus. The area is wooded but populated, with homes spaced about 100 to 200 feet apart. Around 6 p.m. on a clear day, a man was driving home after working on a deck when he spotted what he initially thought was just another person standing on the side of the road about 100 yards ahead.
That's when things got weird.
As he got closer, about 50 yards out, he realized this was no ordinary person. The figure bolted into the woods toward Pearl Creek Elementary School like a spooked wild animal. The witness stopped his car and watched as the creature ran about 30 yards into the trees, then turned and ran parallel to the road. What he saw was a being roughly 6 feet tall, around 200 pounds, covered in reddish-rust colored hair about 3 to 4 inches long. The run was described as strange and "hoppy," with one foot pushing off normally while the other propelled the figure upward and forward.
The whole encounter lasted under 30 seconds, and the witness admitted he was so mesmerized he didn't even think to look at the creature's face. He was too busy trying to process what he was actually seeing.
Here's where it gets even more interesting. The next day, the witness stopped in the same area and flagged down a couple walking their dogs. They told him that about a week earlier, three kids had run up to them near the soccer field asking, "Did you see the Sasquatch? Did you see the Sasquatch?" So this wasn't an isolated event in that location.
When the witness reported the sighting to the Fish and Game office in Fairbanks, the employee taking the report was reportedly rolling his eyes and writing it on scrap paper. Sadly, that's still the reality many witnesses face when they come forward.
The BFRO investigation that followed added some credibility to the report. Investigator Charles Lamica, who used to live near the area, interviewed the witness telephonically and found the story credible. He noted that the entire sighting was under 30 seconds, and the distance closed from about 100 yards down to 20 to 30 yards as the encounter progressed.
Fairbanks sits in the interior of Alaska, and the state itself is massive, taking up nearly a third of the landmass of the lower 48. With so much unexplored wilderness, dense forests, and abundant water sources, it's no surprise that Alaska has a long history of Sasquatch reports. Indigenous folklore from the region includes stories going back centuries about local man-beasts and forest people, which lines up with what witnesses continue to report today.
The video also mentions sightings from military personnel in the Fairbanks area, though the discussion cuts off before getting into those details. Definitely worth checking out the full video for anyone interested in Alaska Sasquatch encounters.
Sightings like this one near a populated area, close to a school where kids also reported seeing something, really highlight how adaptable these beings might be. The witness's description of the unusual gait and the reddish coat color matches patterns reported in other parts of the Pacific Northwest and Canada too. Alaska remains one of the most active regions for credible encounters, and reports like this one from 2009 continue to circulate among researchers.
