Now this is the kind of story that makes you sit back and really think about what's out there in those deep woods. A video popped up on YouTube from the channel Encounters USA, and it features a woman sharing an absolutely wild account from her family in Washington State. Trust me, you'll want to check out the full video after reading this.
So here's the deal. This woman's dad was out behind his property near Humptulips, specifically the Prairie area behind the old state gravel pit, getting ready for hunting season. He was just sighting in his rifle, making sure everything was dialed in. He had no idea what was about to happen. When he walked out there, there was something about a hundred yards away that he didn't even register as being there. He took the shot, and didn't realize he'd hit anything until he heard the scream.
Now, this is where it gets really interesting. He thought maybe he'd accidentally hit a person at first, which is terrifying to think about. But when he went to check, it wasn't human. It was a young Sasquatch, and the bullet had gone clean through the shoulder, which was probably the only lucky break in this whole situation. The dad immediately went into helper mode. He ran back to the house, grabbed medical supplies, and headed back out to tend to the wound.
But here's the part that gives you chills. While he was working on the young one, a much larger Sasquatch was standing nearby, watching. The dad described the big one's attitude as very protective, like "you hurt him, I'm going to hurt you" energy. But instead of attacking, the big one seemed to understand that the man was there to help. It just stood back and let him do what he needed to do.
The dad even tried to communicate. He drew in the dirt with a stick, showed the moon, and told them to come back in two days so he could change the bandage. And get this, the big one nodded its head. It understood what he was saying. They came back in two days, and the dad changed the bandage. He did this for about a week and a half until they stopped showing up.
Now, the part that really got me, and probably will get you too, is what happened after. The family started finding fruit left on their front porch in these little handmade baskets. The mom was asking if neighbors had stopped by, and the dad just casually said it was "a friend." He never told his wife the whole story. The family didn't really believe him at the time, but looking back, those baskets were almost certainly a thank you from the Sasquatch family for helping their young one heal.
And speaking of healing, the dad noticed something fascinating when he came back to change the bandages. There was moss and other natural materials tucked underneath that he hadn't put there. It looked like the Sasquatch had been adding their own kind of medicine to the wound, almost like a home remedy. The dad said it made the healing process move much faster than it normally would have. He wished he could have figured out exactly what they were using because it looked like they had chewed up various plants and applied them directly to the injury. That's some serious knowledge of natural medicine right there.
The woman sharing this story admitted she never really believed her dad when she was younger. She thought he was just spinning tall tales. But then she had her own encounter that changed her mind completely.
She was working nights with mentally handicapped adults and got off around midnight. She was coming out of Hoquiam where there used to be a way station, and she saw what she thought was a guy walking into town. There were no cars around, so she figured his vehicle had broken down and she could give him a ride into town. She was doing about 50 miles an hour getting ready to stop when it hit her. This figure had no clothes on, just fur, and was taller than her big four-door truck with the doolies. She said they sit up really high, and this thing was still towering over her vehicle. She hit the gas and got out of there fast.
But that's not all. Her girlfriend had a sighting out on Ocean Beach Road, about two miles from Aloha. She came across three of them on the left-hand side at a gate, and she described it as looking like a family unit, one definitely a male, one she assumed was a female, and a child. That one really shook her.
And the encounters don't stop there. Her granddaughter and her family actually ran into a whole group of them out near Taholah. They were on a trail that goes about a mile in and comes out on the beach over on the reservation. Whatever they saw scared them so badly they couldn't get out of there fast enough.
Stories like this are exactly why the southern Olympics in Washington continue to be such a hot spot for Sasquatch activity. The dense, old-growth forests, the rugged terrain, the remote areas, it all adds up to perfect habitat. And when you hear accounts like this one, where there's an actual interaction, where someone helped a young one and was repaid with gifts of fruit, it makes you wonder about the intelligence and emotional capacity of these beings. The fact that the big one nodded in understanding, that they brought their own medicine to help heal the wound, that they left handmade baskets of fruit as a gesture of gratitude, that's not the behavior of some simple creature. That's something far more complex.
The video itself is worth watching because the woman tells it so naturally, and you can hear the sincerity in her voice. She even laughs a little at the beginning about how she didn't believe her dad, but after her own sighting, she knows better now. It's one of those stories that stays with you.
Definitely check out the full video on the Encounters USA channel. And if you're ever out in the southern Olympics, especially around Humptulips, Prairie, Hoquiam, or Taholah, keep your eyes open. You never know what you might encounter.
