Researchers Spot Dark Figure Fleeing Pennsylvania Forest During Bigfoot Call Experiment

There's something fascinating about the Laurel Highlands of Pennsylvania that keeps drawing people back, and the latest story making the rounds is one that deserves your full attention. A researcher named Greg Kotyuha shared an absolutely wild encounter that happened back in August 2015, and the details are the kind that make you lean in a little closer to your screen.
So here's the setup. Greg was out with two other researchers, who he refers to as Mr. A and Mr. B, exploring Forbes State Forest just outside of Uniontown. They drove down Pine Knob Road, a dirt and gravel road that cuts through the forest from Skyline Drive at the top of Chestnut Ridge and eventually becomes a paved city street in Hopwood. Their destination was a spot called Cabin Rocks, which honestly sounds like the kind of place that doesn't look like much on paper but has that unexplainable pull to it.
They parked about two miles in and hiked down off the ridge on a blazing hot summer day. Cabin Rocks wasn't anything special, just a rock outcropping that wouldn't interest climbers. But they kept going, heading farther down the ridge until they were maybe a quarter to half a mile from houses on Buttermilk Lane. Close enough to civilization that you wouldn't expect anything unusual, but far enough into the woods to feel completely isolated.
That's when Mr. A decided to sit down for a smoke. He pulled out his phone and a bullhorn, and started blasting recorded Bigfoot calls facing downhill. About 70 yards away, there was a big bank of shrubbery, maybe nine or ten feet tall, with a gap in it. The gap sat about four feet off the ground and was roughly circular, two and a half to three feet in diameter.
And then someone noticed it. Something black, filling that entire gap. It wasn't moving. It wasn't reacting to the calls blasting in its direction. It wasn't reacting to three guys sitting there smoking and making noise. Greg himself initially thought it was just a black garbage bag or piece of construction material that had gotten hung up on the shrubbery. That's how still it was.
Mr. B decided to make a half circle to the right, gradually working his way around to see what was behind that shrubbery. Greg thought it was a waste of time. But when Mr. B got about a third of the way through that arc, whatever it was suddenly took off. And here's the really interesting part, it didn't just run out in the open. It kept the shrubbery between itself and the group, staying obscured as it moved.
Think about that for a second. Whatever was filling that gap was big enough to completely block a two and a half to three foot opening that was four feet off the ground. And it had enough awareness to realize it was being flanked and to use the vegetation as cover while it moved away. That's not the behavior of a garbage bag.
But Greg's story doesn't end there. He mentions that Forbes State Forest has given him other experiences over the years too. There was a night where he and a couple of others heard two tree knocks in two different locations, real close, back to back. That same night, strange lights started appearing in the woods.
Then in 2024, he had another experience in that same section of forest. This time it was a mysterious light that was changing color and intensity with no pattern at all. White, blue, orange, red, getting brighter and dimmer completely at random. It moved back and forth slowly, never going above maybe 25 feet in altitude, staying within about 60 feet side to side. When they tried to approach it, it kept the same distance. When they gave up and went back to their chairs, it returned to the same spot. They watched this thing from around 10 PM until 3 AM.
Greg also mentions seeing orbs over Mount Davis, softball-sized bluish round balls of light that were completely stationary in an area with no houses around. Pennsylvania, it seems, has no shortage of strange phenomena.
The Forbes State Forest area, by the way, is part of a larger region in the Laurel Highlands that's become something of a hotspot for reports over the years. The terrain there, with its ridges, dense forest cover, and proximity to remote areas while still being relatively close to populated zones, creates exactly the kind of environment where someone could have an encounter and still question whether what they saw was real.
This is one of those stories that sticks with you. The details are specific, the witnesses were experienced researchers who knew the area, and the behavior of whatever was behind that shrubbery suggests something with intelligence and awareness. Greg himself doesn't claim to know exactly what he saw that day, but the encounter clearly left an impression.
If you want to hear the full story straight from Greg, definitely check out the video. It's worth the time.
