There's a video floating around YouTube right now that every serious researcher needs to carve out some time for. It's a long one, but trust me, it's worth every minute. The story centers on a guy named Tyler Brennan, who back in the fall of 1998 headed solo into the Uinta Mountains of Utah at over 10,000 feet with one mission in mind. Tyler wasn't a typical Sasquatch seeker. He wasn't out there chasing a thrill or hoping to prove something to the world. He was convinced, after years of reading encounter reports and watching every documentary he could get his hands on, that Bigfoot was simply a large primate operating on pure instinct. Nothing more. A mindless ape, as he liked to put it. And he had a whole philosophy built around that belief. Tyler figured that if you stayed calm, didn't run, and projected confidence, the animal would read you as a non-threat and move on. Attacks were defensive, in his mind. Remove the reason to defend and you remove the attack. Simple. Clean. Airtight, even. His cousin Shawn tried to talk him out of going alone, tried to point out that even a gorilla can hurt you by accident, but Tyler had an answer for everything. He wasn't going to panic. He wasn't going to run. By his own logic, he wasn't going to get killed. He set up camp in a basin he'd picked using a spreadsheet, cross-referencing sighting reports against terrain, water, and season. The first night, he heard something off in the distance. A low sound up the slope. He wrote it off as an elk bedding down. Then something moved through his camp while he slept. His dry bag was untied, not torn down. His firewood was rearranged, not scattered. And someone, or something, had lined up a row of small stones along the flat rock by his fire pit. Tyler filmed it, laughed at himself for filming it, and explained it all away. A squirrel. A marmot. Idle hands. Memory is unreliable. By the second day, he found tracks. Long, deep at the toe, no claw marks, with a stride longer than any bear could manage. Tyler was thrilled. This was confirmation. The machine behaving the way the machine was supposed to behave. He packed up and moved uphill toward the source. That afternoon, he caught his first glimpse. Three seconds of shaky handheld footage across a drainage. Dark, upright, tall, moving through timber at the edge of a meadow with that rolling gait that doesn't look like a man and doesn't look like a bear. Then it was gone. Tyler whispered into the camera like a birder who'd just added a life bird to his list. Not scared. Triumphant. The full video goes much further than this, and honestly, the way Shawn walks through the footage frame by frame is what makes it hit so hard. There's a reason nobody else in the family could sit through it. You really need to hear the rest in his own words. Head over to YouTube and search for the channel Weekly Terror. The video is titled "They Said Bigfoot is 'Just a Mindless Ape', They Died." Set aside some time, maybe grab something to drink, because once you start, you're not going to want to stop.
