He saw an individual sitting beside a large rock on the side of the road. The hair color was like dead pine needles, and he describes a cone-shaped head with very broad shoulders measuring approximately 48 to 54 inches across, with massive trapezius muscles. The hair was 6 to 8 inches long, and he could see it blowing in the wind. He noted pink skin underneath the fur and no undercoat like a dog or cat would have. The rock the creature was sitting next to reached midway between its elbow and shoulder, and PJ later measured it at about 4.5 feet tall. Based on that, he estimated the seated height at around 6 feet, with a standing height of approximately 10 feet. His first thought was a large gorilla, but the proportions weren't right. Months later, when he saw the Patterson-Gimlin film on TV and the subject walked away showing her back, he jumped up and yelled "That's what I saw." He's been hooked on the research ever since.
