There's something special about a podcast that lets the witnesses do the talking, and that's exactly what happens in this episode from the Bigfoot Society channel hosted by Jeremiah Byron. Episode 1139 is a compilation of voicemails from listeners across the country sharing their firsthand encounters, and let me tell you, this one is packed with stories that will make you want to grab your flashlight and head straight into the woods.
The episode opens with a hiker recalling a March 2020 trip near Ice Box Cave in the Akron Peninsula area. He and his wife had wandered off the main trail onto some deer paths when they came across something remarkable at a trail intersection: a massive footprint pressed into the muddy center of the path. The print was filled with rainwater by the time they found it, but the heel and toe impressions were still clearly visible. What makes this one stand out is the location, only 30 to 40 yards from a well-traveled hiking trail where hundreds of people pass through regularly. A photo was taken, and the witness describes the experience as both exciting and deeply strange.
Then there's Dave's story from Grafton, Ohio, and this one is an absolute heart-pounder. Dave was 18 at the time, cruising the back roads with his cousin from New York in his 1979 Grand Prix with the T-tops out and Slayer blasting through the speakers. The area they're describing has a reputation for bizarre activity, including people having their vehicles pushed and worse. Around 1:00 AM, his cousin accidentally kicked the amp wire loose from the fuse box, plunging them into complete darkness. That's when they heard footsteps coming from the woods, right in front of the car where a creek ran across the road. Dave got out to fix the wire, and that's when a tree snapped with a sound he compares to a shotgun blast. Both of them screamed at the top of their lungs, Dave dove through the T-top, and his cousin sped off crying. Dave is now 50 years old and says he's never been that scared in his entire life. The growl that followed was deep, rumbling, and close, around 10 feet away. The hair on their bodies stood straight up. This is the kind of encounter that stays with a person forever.
Jerry Bradenburg calls in next, and his story is one for the books. Someone tipped him off about a location where these creatures have been spotted, and after his first four hikes, he was hooked. He's been back over 30 times in the last year and a half and claims to have video, photographs, and visual sightings. He mentions a structure built by what he calls "the big guy" and insists all his evidence is real. The kind of dedication this requires is something researchers and enthusiasts deeply respect.
Shanda from Utah shares a haunting experience from 2013 and 2014 near Monument Valley, right on the Utah-Arizona border. She describes hearing massive howls that set every dog in the neighborhood barking, including her neighbors' pets. Her grandmother, who lived with her in this remote area, recognized the sound immediately and warned her in the Navajo way that it was the boogeyman, a being with a specific name in their language that she's struggling to recall. What struck her most was the silence that followed. The dogs would bark at coyotes, foxes, and other wildlife constantly, but when this thing was near, everything went quiet. That eerie stillness is something many witnesses describe, and it's one of the most unsettling aspects of these encounters.
Finally, Pat from Novato, California, originally from Carroll, Iowa, shares a late 1980s experience that took place at upper Cash Creek, not far from Indian Valley Reservoir. Pat is a lifelong outdoorsman who has fished, hunted, and camped from Minnesota to northern Canada, Alaska, and throughout California's ancient forests. He's seen it all and never gave Bigfoot much thought until one night around 2:00 or 3:00 AM when massive tree knocks jolted him and his coworker out of their sleeping bags. Shortly after, they heard a bloodcurdling scream, shrill and powerful, unlike anything either of them had experienced. They didn't know what they were hearing at the time, but all these years later, Pat knows exactly what it was. The Indian Valley Reservoir area has a history of reported sightings, and Pat's account adds another compelling piece to that puzzle.
What makes this episode so compelling is the variety of encounters and the geographic spread. Ohio, Utah, California, and beyond, these witnesses come from all walks of life, and their stories share common threads: tree knocks, screams, footprints, growls, and that unmistakable feeling of being watched or followed. The Appalachian region, particularly Ohio and Kentucky, has long been considered a hotspot for activity, and the Ohio footprint story fits right into that pattern. The Navajo oral traditions referenced by Shanda echo similar beliefs held by Indigenous peoples across North America, from the Pacific Northwest to the Southwest, traditions that describe large, hairy wild people living in the mountains and forests.
This episode is absolutely worth the listen for anyone who appreciates raw, unfiltered witness testimony. Jeremiah Byron has created a space where people feel comfortable sharing their stories, and the result is a rich tapestry of encounters that span decades and thousands of miles. Check it out and let those voices speak for themselves.
