So there's this fascinating video making the rounds on YouTube from a channel called The Bigfoot Files, and it's all about digging into one of the most compelling Sasquatch encounters to ever come out of Southern California. The whole thing centers around a Boy Scout summer camp incident from the 1970s at Camp Tahquitz, and let me tell you, the witness account is the kind of stuff that gives you chills.
The story goes like this: a 12-year-old scout from Long Beach was at his first summer camp back in the day. Him and his troop arrived a day before the others, setting up camp in the quiet of the evening. Around 11 p.m., they heard something that started like a wolf howl but ended in what can only be described as a man's scream. The sound was so intense it literally stopped the crickets from chirping. Then around 1 a.m., one of the scouts named Kenny woke up the others because something was moving through the bushes and trees right next to their campground. When Kenny shined his flashlight into the tree line, there it was, a Sasquatch standing there looking right at them. The reaction was pure chaos, screaming, yelling, and apparently one of the scouts was so frightened he relieved himself on the spot. Honestly, who could blame him?
What makes this video really worth watching is that the investigator doesn't just tell the story and leave it at that. He actually goes out to the area to see what he can find. He sets up camp at Barton Flats Campground, which is right up the highway from where the original encounter took place, and starts exploring the service roads and wilderness behind the old scout camp. The terrain is gorgeous, San Bernardino National Forest territory, with the San Gorgonio Wilderness looming in the background. This area has been on his radar for about five years because he's had multiple bizarre experiences out there himself.
One of the cooler moments in the video is when he talks about the springs in the area. A lot of people argue that this terrain couldn't sustain a Sasquatch year-round, but he makes a solid point about the numerous natural springs bubbling up fresh water throughout these mountains. If you look at a map, there are 10 to 15 springs within just a couple of miles. When the South Fork or the Santa Ana River runs dry, the wildlife relies on those springs, and so could any large, reclusive hominid traveling through the area. It's basic survival logic, really. Water sources are key for any creature, and Sasquatch would be no different.
He also runs into Brandon Bronzini from Bronzini Bigfoot, and they head out together to explore the back side of Silver Lake and push into the wilderness beyond the campground. There's no trails out there, just raw terrain heading toward the Santa Ana River basin. Along the way, they spot some anomalies from a vantage point that Brandon zooms in on with his camera, and they come across this incredible old tree that looks like something straight out of Lord of the Rings. Brandon initially thought it was a chimney through the trees, but up close, it looks like a creature, almost like a head shape. The way the wood has weathered over time creates this eerie, almost sculptural form. It's the kind of thing that makes you wonder if nature sometimes mimics the unknown.
The whole video has this great vibe of genuine curiosity and respect for the subject. The investigator isn't out there trying to prove anything, he's just exploring, documenting, and sharing what he finds. There's a moment where he talks about how often we might walk right past a creature that's been monitoring us the whole time, aware of our presence but choosing to stay hidden. That kind of perspective is what makes these investigations so compelling, the idea that these beings could be right there, just out of sight, watching us as much as we're looking for them.
If you're into Southern California Sasquatch history, or just love following researchers into the field, this video is definitely worth checking out. The Boy Scout encounter alone is one of those stories that sticks with you, and seeing the actual location where it happened adds another layer to the whole thing. The San Bernardino Mountains have a long history of sightings, and this video does a great job of connecting the past encounters to the present-day exploration of the area.
