He couldn't see any whites around the eyes, but he was sure they were eyes, and they were staring deeply into him. The creature was hunched over behind a tall cedar stump, and Stephen could see its hairy shoulder and upper arm. Stephen and his two friends were alone in the woods when this encounter happened. They were just about 200 yards into the woods when Stephen's dog alerted to something to the south. Stephen turned to his left and saw what looked like an ape-gorilla hunched behind the stump. He stared into its eyes for a few seconds before running out of the woods as fast as he could. Stephen's friends followed him out of the woods, but they didn't answer when he asked if they saw it. They were looking off to where his dog was alerted to, so Stephen is guessing that there was more than one thing in the woods that day. This encounter took place in 1975, and Stephen mentioned that sometimes older teenagers would hang out in the woods, but they weren't there at the time. Stephen also mentioned that there was an old house across 91st Avenue, and one of the neighbor kids said that the people who lived there had monkeys. Stephen went over to check it out, but all they had were spider monkeys. This encounter left a lasting impression on Stephen, and he believes that there is more to the story.
