Childhood incident near Trenton - possilble sighting & tracks witnessed in Ontario, Canada

It's been so long now, it's a bit tough to remember. But, I still see some images in my mind as clear as they were the day it happened. I was 7 or 8 years old. My sister and I used to ice-skate on a pond in the forest behind the apartment building we used to live in. It was about a 5 minute walk down a well beaten path. We had just finished skating, which usually lasted about 2 hours and was something we did first thing in the morning, around 9am. So, around 11am we started to head back home for lunch. I heard some movement in the bushes and just managed to catch a glimpse of something large, and brown. It was quite a distance away, I'd say at least 100 to 150 feet off the path.
