Just came across this absolutely chilling account over on the Midnight Nightmare Narratives YouTube channel, and I had to share it with everyone here. A female hiker shares her firsthand experience with what she believes was a group of Sasquatch in northern Minnesota's Superior National Forest, and the physical evidence she describes is the kind of stuff that gives you goosebumps.
The story starts out like so many encounter tales do, a city dweller seeking peace in the wilderness. After years of grinding 14-hour days at a marketing job in Chicago, this woman decided she needed a real disconnect. She booked a solo hiking trip into the Superior National Forest for four days of camping and solitude. The timing was late September, and she describes the setting in beautiful detail, crispy autumn air, brilliant fall colors, thick pine and maple forests following an old logging road that hadn't been used in decades.
About six miles in, she found a clearing by a stream and set up camp. But the real find came the next day when she discovered an abandoned log cabin tucked back in the trees, almost completely hidden by overgrown brush and fallen branches. The cabin was built from thick pine logs weathered to dark gray, with a partially caved-in roof but solid walls. No windows, just openings, and a door hanging crooked on rusted hinges. Inside was a dirt floor, stone fireplace, and remnants of old furniture, a rough wooden table, a three-legged chair, and what looked like the remains of a bed frame. Old beer bottles and rusted cans suggested it had been abandoned for decades.
She decided to move her gear into the cabin, and that first evening felt magical. She cooked over an open fire, sat at the old wooden table, and felt more at peace than she had in years. But that peace didn't last long.
In the middle of the night, she woke to strange rhythmic sounds outside, too heavy to be human, too deliberate to be wind. Footsteps circling the cabin slowly, like something investigating her presence. Then came the grunting, low and deep, almost human but not quite. She describes it as sounding like someone with a severe speech impediment trying to communicate. The grunts came in patterns, sometimes short and sharp, sometimes longer and drawn out. And they seemed to be coming from multiple sources now, as if several creatures were communicating with each other.
What happened next is the part that really got me. She heard scratching against the log walls, something testing the structure. At one point, something large bumped against the door hard enough to make the whole frame shake. She gripped her knife but knew it would be useless against whatever was out there. All she could do was lie still and hope they would lose interest.
When dawn finally broke, she gathered her courage and stepped outside. What she found made her blood run cold. Tracks everywhere in the soft earth around the cabin, almost human in shape with five toes, but enormous. At least twice the size of her own feet, and much wider. The impressions were deep, indicating something incredibly heavy had made them. She knelt down and measured one with her hand, nearly 18 inches long. Multiple sets of tracks circled the entire cabin, suggesting at least three or four individuals. Some showed claw marks at the tips of the toes, and all had an impossibly long stride length for any human.
She followed the tracks away from the cabin and found a sapling that had been snapped in half about 8 feet off the ground, the break still fresh and oozing sap. The evidence was undeniable, something very large, very powerful, and walking on two legs had spent hours investigating her shelter.
This account has so many elements that line up with what researchers have documented over the years. The Superior National Forest sits in a region that's produced numerous reports over the decades. Minnesota is one of those states where sightings pop up regularly, particularly in the northern wilderness areas near the Canadian border. The 18-inch track size she describes fits right within the typical range reported by witnesses, which usually falls somewhere between 14 and 20 inches. The multiple individuals circling the cabin also matches a pattern researchers have noted, as Sasquatch are often described as traveling in small family groups, and they sometimes demonstrate what can only be called investigative behavior when they encounter human presence in their territory.
The grunting vocalizations she describes are also consistent with what's been reported in other encounters. Witnesses frequently describe deep, guttural sounds, sometimes compared to a language or communication system. Some researchers have even suggested these could be forms of vocalization unique to Sasquatch populations in different regions.
The detail about the broken sapling is particularly interesting. Researchers have documented what are called tree structures or habitat markers, broken or bent trees that some believe Sasquatch create as territorial markers or even as some form of communication. A fresh break at 8 feet off the ground suggests something well over 7 feet tall reached up and snapped it clean.
The witness mentions she has scars on her wrist that won't heal properly, and references a human skull sitting in a cave somewhere in northern Minnesota that she says proves her story. The video goes into much more detail about what happened after this initial night of investigation, and it's worth watching the full account to hear the rest of what she experienced.
If you're interested in encounter stories with solid physical evidence, this one is definitely worth your time. The combination of auditory and physical evidence, the tracks, the broken sapling, the multiple individuals, makes this a particularly compelling account.
