There's something about the Adirondacks that just screams perfect Sasquatch territory. Over 9,000 square miles of wilderness, 2,800 lakes, 30,000 miles of streams and rivers, and 46 mountain peaks soaring above 4,000 feet. It's the kind of vast, rugged landscape where something big and hairy could easily disappear forever, which is exactly why a recent video diving into encounters from this region caught my attention. The footage comes from the Odd & Untold channel, and it focuses on a witness named Scott David Harris, a New York resident who lives just outside the famous "blue line" of the Adirondack Park. Scott isn't your typical casual hiker who stumbled upon something weird once. He's got two separate encounters under his belt, four years apart, and both happened in Essex County in the High Peaks region. Both encounters left him shaken, and honestly, after hearing the details, it's easy to understand why. The first encounter happened in the early morning hours of June 25, 1989. Scott was walking with two friends along an abandoned Lake Champlain and Moriah railroad track bed near Route 9N/22 in Port Henry, looking for one of their friend's brothers. Around 1:30 AM, they heard a horrifying screaming noise coming from over a bank on the south side of the tracks, along with the unmistakable sound of metal being ripped and thrown. Over that bank sat a collection of junked-out cars, including some Subarus and an early 60s Chevy station wagon. When one of his friends blurted out "What was that?" the noises stopped dead, almost as if whatever was making them had heard them. Then came the sound of something massive crashing through heavy brush below them. Before Scott could process what was happening, it was up the bank and standing right in front of him. He couldn't see details in the dark, but he could feel its breath and hear it breathing. His buddies bolted, leaving him behind. The creature took off after them, its feet pounding on the gravel, and only stopped chasing when they broke out onto the road. Scott glanced back and saw its shadow just inside the brush, massive, far bigger than any man. Here's the kicker: the bank it climbed was at over a 45-degree angle, covered in loose gravel, stone, vines, and heavy brush. When Scott and his friends went back the next weekend to try climbing it themselves, it took them over five minutes. The thing practically flew up it. And if that wasn't enough, the early 60s station wagon that had been sitting on its wheels the week before was now flipped onto its roof, with pieces ripped off and scattered around. That detail alone is enough to give anyone chills. Four years later, on September 23, 1993, Scott had his second run-in. This time he was cruising around with his buddy Matt in Matt's '85 LTD station wagon, the ultimate late-September touring vessel. They drove up a four-wheel-drive trail to a popular party spot near Westport, New York, parked with the rear of the wagon facing the woods, and just hung out talking. Scott happened to glance out the back window and saw something big and black coming up behind the car with its arm out, almost like it was reaching for the driver's side door. The wagon's tail lights lit up the area nicely, and Scott could see the creature clearly. He turned to Matt and asked, completely deadpan, "Did you lock the doors?" Matt didn't hesitate. He slammed the gearshift into drive and they tore out of there. Scott looked back and watched the thing stand up to its full height, over seven feet tall, huge and black, with a red flicker in its eyes catching the glow of the tail lights. They didn't stop until they reached Port Henry, six or seven miles away. Scott is quick to point out that he knows what bears look like and how they behave, and he's adamant that neither encounter was a bear. Bears don't typically chase people in the dark, and they certainly don't scale 45-degree gravel banks like they're walking up stairs. He also notes that both times, he and his companions were completely sober, a detail he feels compelled to mention because skeptics always seem to assume otherwise. What makes Scott's story particularly compelling is the consistency between the two encounters. Both happened in the same general region, both involved a creature of enormous size and strength, and both featured that unsettling intelligence, the way the first one stopped making noise when it heard them speak, the way the second one approached the car with apparent purpose. The Adirondacks have long been a hot spot for Sasquatch reports, and Scott's experiences fit right in with the broader pattern of encounters coming out of that wilderness. The video also mentions a Bigfoot conference happening in the foothills of the Adirondacks, which is worth keeping an eye on for anyone in the area. The Odd & Untold channel does a solid job breaking down the details and pointing out the things that don't quite add up if you try to explain these encounters away as bears or pranksters. Definitely worth checking out the full video for anyone interested in Sasquatch activity in the Northeast.
