A Washington man named Steve Pavlik had not one, but two unsettling encounters with what he believes was Sasquatch back in 2009, and the details are the kind that give you chills. The story recently resurfaced on the LoveLeigh Adventures YouTube channel, where the host reads through and reacts to Pavlik's firsthand account, and honestly, it's worth carving out a few minutes to watch the full breakdown.
Pavlik was living in a rented house along Haxton Way on the Lummi Reservation just outside Bellingham, Washington. If you know anything about the Pacific Northwest, you already know this is prime Sasquatch territory. His property sat just a few feet off the road, with about 100 yards of dense, heavy woods behind the house and Lummi Bay beyond that. The kind of setup that sounds peaceful until something starts screaming in the dark.
The first encounter happened around 3:30 to 4:00 in the morning on September 23, 2009. Pavlik was loading his travel bags into his truck, headed to Bellingham International Airport for an early flight to Colorado. The morning was pitch dark, cold, crisp, and almost cloudless. Then, out of nowhere, a loud, piercing cry shattered the stillness. It came from the woods behind his house, no more than 50 yards away. The sound lasted about five seconds, paused for two or three seconds, and then repeated identically. Pavlik described it as a long, drawn-out howling cry, and the closest comparison he could make was to the howler monkeys of South America. Whatever it was, it was loud enough to wake up every dog within a one-mile radius, turning the silent morning into complete chaos. Pavlik turned off his porch lights and sat in the dark for 15 minutes hoping to hear it again, but the creature went quiet.
Less than a week later, on September 27, Pavlik got his second visit. He had been pheasant hunting at nearby Lake Terrell and came home with two birds. He went to a small clearing near his driveway to clean them, a spot where he routinely tossed the remains into the woods for the raccoons and possums. He had just finished cleaning the first bird when all hell broke loose in the woods less than 20 feet from him. A large tree, with a trunk roughly 10 inches in diameter, began swinging violently from side to side like it was a sapling. Branches and leaves came crashing down, and Pavlik could hear the loud cracking of wood, like something was breaking branches over its knee and slamming them into the ground.
His Labrador retriever, Robin, who had been lying next to him chewing on a pheasant wing, leaped to his feet and began cautiously backing toward the house without making a single sound. Pavlik, knife in hand, expected something to come charging out of the brush at him. When things briefly quieted down, the tree shaking started again, along with more breaking wood and brush. Deciding that a small skinning knife was no match for whatever was in front of him, Pavlik grabbed his partially cleaned birds and made a hasty retreat. Robin was already on the porch waiting for him.
What makes this account stand out is the contrast between the two visits. The first time, Sasquatch was vocal, letting out that blood-curdling cry. The second time, there was complete silence from the creature itself, but the message was loud and clear through the destruction. Pavlik noted that whatever he encountered was not fleeing. Its actions, while not overtly aggressive, carried a clear intent to scare him off and assert dominance. And it worked.
Pavlik admitted he had never given much thought to Sasquatch before these incidents, but he later discovered his house was located in an area well known for sightings. He also pointed out that bear sightings on the Lummi Reservation are far less frequent than Sasquatch sightings, which says a lot considering how often people try to write these things off as bear encounters.
The LoveLeigh Adventures host brings a fun energy to the retelling, throwing in some great commentary about how annoying it must have been to have every neighborhood dog going off at once, and whether a bear or Sasquatch would be scarier to run into.
