But, there have been a few strange occurrences that they can't quite explain. Every spring, they hear a strange, rhythmic whooping sound coming from the woods, right around dusk. The tone and cadence are unlike anything they're familiar with, almost ape-like. When they hear it, the whole family steps outside to listen, puzzled by the mysterious sound. In one winter, they heard a high-pitched scream, echoing through the air late at night. It was a mix between a scream and a howl, and it seemed to travel up and down the creek bed. This sound was so eerie that even the dogs, who usually bark at everything, would stay quiet. One winter, they also found a single large footprint near the barn. It looked human at first glance, but the toes were strange, spled or deformed. They never found a second print, but they all saw it and agreed that it wasn't a bootprint or anything like that. The most unsettling encounter happened the night before they found the footprint. There had been loud crying or wailing sounds coming from deep in the woods behind their property. This wailing went on for several minutes, echoing through the trees. They didn't go out to investigate that night, but the next morning, there was the footprint near the barn.
