A thrilling account of a possible Bigfoot encounter at Fort Lewis Air Force Base in the early 1970s has been shared on the YouTube channel, Bigfoot Encounters Narrated. The witness, a guard at the ammunition dump, describes a chilly and dark night, where the perimeter was heavily patrolled due to the threat of anti-government militias stealing guns and ammunition. The guard, who was new to the job, noticed a tall silhouette of a man across the road from him. Thinking it was a militia member trying to gain control of his gun and the ammo dump, he radioed for backup. However, when the young guard arrived at the guardhouse, he was hysterical and claimed it wasn't a man, but a Bigfoot. The guard reported that the creature instantly crossed the road in three strides and was on him in a matter of seconds, coming to a stop just two feet in front of him. The guard was so shaken that he dropped his weapon and radio, and refused to return to his post. The sergeant on guard, along with another guard and the witness, returned to the scene and found large footprints in the damp soil by the fence, approximately 17 to 18 inches long. They also found clumps of dark, stringy hair stuck to the barb wire on the fence. The military police and criminal investigation department were called to the scene, and the area was treated as a crime scene due to the militia threat. The guards were advised to stay in the guardhouse and not contaminate the area. The witness notes that Fort Lewis has a long history of Bigfoot activity, with 84,000 acres of forest and prairie land. The military conversation constitutes one of the largest remaining intact forest areas in the Basin.
